About

My "real name" is Karen. I live just outside Charlottesville, Virginia, in the U.S., just a few miles away from the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. I spend most of my days playing and learning with my children (we call it "homeschooling" and we're in our seventh year).

I'm not very consistent with my yuku posting, even at my own board. "Real life" keeps me so busy most days that i hardly have time for my online visits.

I rarely log on to my instant messenger IDs (for the same reason i'm so sporadic in my board posting), but when i do, you can catch up with me here:

Maybe

Once there was an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit. "Such bad luck," they said sympathetically.

"Maybe," the farmer replied.

The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. "How wonderful," the neighbors exclaimed.

"Maybe," replied the old man.

The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune.

"Maybe," answered the farmer.

The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son's leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out.

"Maybe," said the farmer...

Thoughts

Tao Te Ching calligraphy by Gia-Fu Feng The highest good is like water.
Water gives life to the ten thousand things and does not strive.
It flows in places men reject and so is like the Tao.

In dwelling, be close to the land.
In meditation, go deep in the heart.
In dealing with others, be gentle and kind.
In speech, be true.
In ruling, be just.
In business, be competent.
In action, watch the timing.

No fight: No blame.
~ Tao Te Ching, verse 8 :: Translation and Calligraphy by Gia-Fu Feng
